About Pavan

Pavan, who grew up in India, saw the importance of vaccination first hand. However, as a pharmacy student he saw temperature-sensitive vaccines being exposed to extreme environmental conditions. At the UNM HPV Prevention Center he therefore developed a heat-stable form of a vaccine that could withstand elevated temperatures for a year, without losing potency. A heat stable vaccine is important for poor nations where continuous refrigeration is a costly affair; sometimes 80% of the cost of the vaccine is attributed to maintaining refrigeration. In his free time, Pavan plays tennis, goes to the gym and loves gardening in his backyard.
