About Naomi

Naomi’s interest in studying HPV and other infectious diseases stems from her cultural background. Her research focuses on developing novel vaccines using virus-like particles. She also evaluates STI prevalence and identifies risk factors within tribal communities. Therefore, UNM and the state of NM allow her to access to the top scientists in both areas of vaccines development and HPV epidemiology along with connecting her to various tribal communities. Naomi values her work because of the impact infectious diseases and cancer has affected her family along with the large health disparities across the Native American community. Outside of the lab, Naomi serves the community as a Captain in the New Mexico Army National Guard and enjoys spending quality time with family and friends.
